Inspector App - Image Upload Process Enhancements

The Property Vista Inspector App supports the upload of images for various inspection types. In this article, we will review the enhancements made to the Image Upload process for the Inspector App in release version 2023.11.

Please note that a Wifi connection is strongly advised when submitting an Inspection to prevent any device-specific actions taken when uploading multiple images over cellular data to prevent overheating and battery drainage.

Background Image Upload Process

Previously, when an image was uploaded using the Inspector App, any peripheral action taken while using the app, such as minimizing the application or navigating to another mobile application on your device would inadvertently terminate any image upload process in queue as part of an inspection submission.

This workflow has been optimized in the following ways:

  1. A background upload has been implemented so that the process continues in the background in the event of application minimization, sleep, etc.
  2. A timeout period has been implemented while the application awaits an API response. Previously the application would "hang" or attempt to wait indefinitely in the case a back-end system response was not received when attempting to upload an image. Now, the application will "timeout" when waiting for an API response and move on to the next image in queue if a response is not received within ~5 seconds.

Note: Users will not have to re-upload any images that were included as part of an Inspection submission. In the case of a timeout or error, the user can manually re-upload the pending image and the application will pick up where it last left off. This can be initiated by selecting the "Uploads" icon from the bottom-level navigation menu within the Inspector App.

Image Upload Indicator

A visual indicator has now been added to notify the end-user that a standard image upload (or a user-initiated manual "re-upload") is underway.
